Warriors scheduled as last foe before conference play begins

The NIU volleyball team is headed to Wisconsin for its final game of the regular season tonight in a 7:30 p.m. match-up against the Marquette Warriors.

The Huskies are going into their final match with a 7-17 overall record and a final conference slate of 2-4. Against the Warriors, NIU coach Pete Waite is looking for improvement and some momentum for the North Star Conference Tournament which begins Nov. 17 at Valparaiso.

“It’s our last match of the season before our conference tournament,” Waite said. “I’d like to get some momentum and leave on a positive note.”

The Huskies boast a 5-0 series record against the Warriors, which included a four-game conference victory over them last year. Marquette used to be in the NSC, but it moved to the Midwestern Collegiate Conference this season. The Marquette coach, Tat Shiely, is in her 15th season as head coach, something that Waite noted as a plus for the Warriors.

“They’ve got a very stable program because she’s been there so long,” Waite said. “They’ll be a tough one to beat. They’re a lot like DePaul—we’re going to have to play good to win.”
