PADS Christmas benefit
November 28, 1989
The Sycamore Neighbor Housewalk will sponsor the second annual Christmas memories benifit for PADS on Dec. 10 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.
There will be eight houses participating. The houses will decorate their living rooms and parlors with Christmas decorations for public tours.
There will also be a hay wagon ride, Christmass carolers, and the DeKalb Historical Society will be giving tours of the DeKalb Museum. The DeKalb County Courthouse, Sycamore, will be serving free refreshments afterward.
Carla Cumblad, who will be participating in the house decorating for the first time, said her house will be decorated in a Swedish, new-country look. Another first year participant, Charles Larson, said his house will be decorated in a mixture of American and Swedish traditions. Some of the decorations he is using have been passed down from his grandparents. He also said the tree will be decorated with Swedish flags, American lights and traditional ornaments.
Larson, who’s house was built in 1847, said that most of the houses participating are located in Sycamore’s historical district.
Last year there were about 700 hundred visitors touring the houses and this year expectations are set at 1,000 visitors. There will be guides stationed in each house to answer questions and to guide the visitors through the tour, said Larson.
Tickets can be bought in advance for $4 or on the day of the event for $5 at Brown’s Supermarket, 303 E. State St., Sycamore or Henderson’s Department Store, 308 W. State St., Sycamore.
