‘Second City’ act to help charity

Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity is sponsoring its third annual “Second City” show to raise money for the NIU Campus Child Care and Special Physical Education Clinic.

The production will begin at 9 p.m. tonight in the Duke Ellington Ballroom in the Holmes Student Center.

George Walden, the fraternity’s philanthropy chairman, said the show is “improvisational comedy.” There are eight actors and actresses from Chicago’s Second City National Touring Company who will perform during the show.

Tickets cost $4 in advance or $5 at the door.

“We usually raise between $1,500 and $2,000 for charity. We prefer donating to local organizations because it provides immediate help,” Walden said.

The money is divided equally between NIU Campus Child Care and the SPEC program.

“It takes a great all-house effort to make this happen. Every member of our organization is required to work hard,” he said.
