Annual health fair offers free testing

Local and regional health-related agencies will present more than 20 displays and exhibits at Kishwaukee Community Hospital’s annual health fair.
The fair will be held Friday in the KCH Murphy Center from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Local service agencies will be on hand to answer questions about their services.
Participation by the Ben Gorden Community Mental Health Center and the KCH Psychiatry Department is new to the event this year. They will provide slide presentations, as well as information about their services.
Free blood pressure screening will be provided by the DeKalb County Health Department. The Hauser-Ross Eye Institute will offer glaucoma testing.
Dr. Victor Barresi and Marlee Piskowski, R.N., from the DeKalb Clinic, will present information on allergies and Medifast. Medifast is the trade name for a liquid diet program.
The DeKalb County unit of the American Cancer Society will offer materials on mammography and the early detection of various cancers.
The group also will offer instruction in the proper procedure for breast self-examination.
Representatives from the Heart R.A.T.E./F.I.T. program will be on hand to explain the program, which is associated with the NIU Physical Education Department, and offer free physical fitness testing.
Other free tests at the fair include hearing, cholesterol and respiratory examinations.
The NIU pharmacy will provide drug information and free samples of products.
Careline, an emergency response system, will have an exhibit and give information on its program.
A booth will be set up to offer information on alcholism and chemical dependency.
KCH will be providing information about AIDS.
