NIU tenured faculty are encouraged to apply for a half-time position as faculty development coordinator.

Director of Faculty Development Edwin Simpson said the position is open to qualified faculty, someone who has background or experience as an adviser, has worked with several academic disciplines and is “actively engaged in teaching and scholarly inquiry.

Simpson said 80 percent of the coordinator’s time will be spent working directly with faculty in consultation about career options and helping the other faculty prepare development plans for investigation of new areas of study within their fields.

Other duties include conducting group meetings with faculty related to development functions sponsored by the faculty development office and gathering data to prepare reports about faculty development, Simpson said.

The hired person will maintain the same salary as before becoming coordinator, but will shift duties from being a faculty member to half-time faculty member and half-time faculty development coordinator.

Application dealine is at noon on Nov. 1. The applications will be reviewed by representatives from each of NIU’s colleges and the final selection will be made by Simpson.

Selection will take place before Dec. 1. The selected person will begin work in January.
