Alcohol-free dance planned

Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity is promoting a non-alcoholic dance as part of National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week at 8:30 p.m. tonight in the Chick Evans Field House.
“Driving the Bass” is a fundraiser by the “Bad Boys,” Sig Eps’ fall pledge class. “We wanted something we could do without alcohol. We wanted to prove that Greeks could have a good time without alcohol. This is a good way to get everyone together,” said Mustafa Contractor, a Sig Ep pledge who coordinated the dance.
Contractor said the money raised at the event will go to the fraternity. “We’re hoping for a huge turnout,” he said.
Contractor said this is the first time the fraternity is sponsoring a non-alcoholic dance. “Alcohol is just an icebreaker,” he said. The dance is open to the public. Tickets will be sold around campus today for $2 and at the door for $3.
The event will feature a raffle and a dance competition, he said. When entering the dance, guests will be asked to sign the back of their tickets. During the dance, raffle winners will be drawn from the tickets. Raffle prizes will be t-shirts.
Couples can sign up for the dance competition at the event, he said. The winning couple will be determined by applause. The winners will receive a prize.
