Woman violates probation

A woman who beat a man over the head with a bottle at the East Lagoon Sunday will be extradited to Florida for violating her probation on an alleged cocaine possession, NIU University Police said.

Sandra E. Nehrling, 24, struck an unidentified male with a bottle after an argument between the two about who would drive, said Lt. Ken Kaiser of the University Police.

The male victim refused to sign a complaint against Nehrling. The UPs were informed about the incident by a witness, Kaiser said.

The UPs ran an identification check on the alleged assailant after discovering the evidence of the battery incident, Kaiser said. During the I.D. search, the UPs found Nehrling was wanted by Florida police.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., wanted Nehrling for violating her probation for allegedly possessing cocaine, he said.

Nehrling was taken to the DeKalb County Jail at about 5:53 p.m. and held without bond, Kaiser said. She will be retained there until extradited by the Fort Lauderdale Sheriff’s Office.
