SA might get promotional help through weekend movie clips
October 30, 1989
Student Association Sen. Amanda Rutter has proposed showing one to two-minute movie clips of SA activities before the weekend movies shown in Sandburg Auditorium.
These clips would “let students know, what the SA is doing” and encourage people to get involved, SA President Huda Scheidelman said.
The idea was proposed because finance for a newsletter was not available, Rutter said. The movie clips are a different avenue that would not cost as much as a newsletter, she said.
The movies would be run on a monthly basis and contain clips of the SA’s involvement, such as the Homecoming parade. The movie would be interesting and enjoyable and would catch the attention of students and inform them, Rutter said. “Something artistic, (but) not like a beer commercial.”
The SA “basically relies on the Star (for publicity) and it’s not the Star’s responsibility to do that,” Rutter said.
Promotions for the SA in the form of movie clips are ideal, because about 2,000 people see a movie in Sandburg Auditorium every weekend, said Mark Shafer, film committee adviser.
“I’m in favor,” Shafer said. But, the film committee will not make a decision until the end of the semester, he said.
