Crews to start leaves removal sections 2, 3 and 4

This week the city of DeKalb leaf pickup crews will be working in Sections 2, 3 and 4.

Section 2—The southern area of DeKalb is bordered on the north by Taylor Street, on the east by Seventh and Eighth Streets, on the south by the south corporate city limits and on the west by Sharon Drive.

Section 3—The northwest and NIU area of DeKalb is bordered on the north by Ridge Drive, on the east by Sleepy Hollow Lane to the Kishwaukee River then east to North First Street, on the south by Lincoln Highway and on the west by Annie Glidden Road. University Heights is also included in Section 3.

Section 4—The Tilton Park and Hillcrest area of the city is bordered on the north by Stoney Creek Road, on the east by the Kishwaukee River, on the south by Sunnymeade Trail and on the west by Sleepy Hollow Lane.

As a reminder, the city offers residents three options for leaf removal, loose leaf pickup, bagged leaf pickup and recyclable leaf removal.

Loose leaves must be placed on the residents parkway, just behind the street curb at the start of the announced pickup for that particular section.

To expedite the pickup, keep leaf piles free of foreign materials such as sticks, tree limbs and rocks, as the machinery will not pick those items up. Residents who do not follow the schedule will be required to wait until their section is scheduled again.

Bagged leaves must be placed at the same location as the residents normal household garbage pickup and not with the loose leaf accumulation, as the leaf pickup equipment cannot handle the bagged leaves. All bagged leaves will be picked up by means of the city’s contracted refuse vendor.

As a part of Environmental Awareness, the city and the city’s contracted refuse hauler offer residents the opportunity to dispose of their leaves in a manner in which they will be recycled back into the soil.

Those who wish to participate in this program may do so by transporting their leaf accumulation to the drop off locations at all DeKalb Public School parking lots or at the DeKalb County Recycling Center, 129 Simonds Ave.

The collection containers are tan and marked “DeKalb County Recycling.” All leaves must be loose, not in refuse bags, when placed in the collection containers.

It is anticipated that during the week of Nov. 6-10, the leaf crews will be working in Sections 1 and 5.
