Alumnus to speak on self marketing

An NIU journalism alumnus will visit from Costa Mesa, Cal. Thursday to speak about “Marketing Services Begin with Yourself.”

The American Marketing Association and the Public Relations Student Society of America are “sharing responsibilities” in promoting the event, said PRSSA President Mary Beth Sanders.

PRSSA Adviser Dr. Albert Walker, who will be retiring in May, arranged for marketing speaker Marc Dean to visit NIU.

“We’re working together to put our efforts in to get lots of people to attend,” said Sal LoSchiavo, AMA regional director.

The organizations are expecting more than 200 students to attend, Sanders said. All majors are welcome to attend. “If you want to expand and learn about things,” the speaker will be beneficial, Sanders said.

Dean will “teach students the close relationship between marketing and public relations,” Sanders said.

The speaker will be at Cole Hall 100 at 8:45 p.m.

PRSSA, the 52-member club, has an average of one speaker every three weeks. Its open meetings are alternating Wednesdays, the next being Nov. 15, at 8:45 p.m. in Reavis Hall 210.

More information about PRSSA can be obtained through the bulletin boards in Reavis Hall or by calling the journalism department office.

AMA has general meetings every Tuesday at 9:15 p.m. in Wirtz Auditorium.
