Church plans auction
September 14, 1989
St. Mary’s Church in Sycamore plans to fill its parking lot with collectibles, new merchandise, miscellaneous treasures and recycleables for its 13th annual auction and fall festival at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.
A garage sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday in the church parking lot, 222 Waterman Street. All proceeds will benefit St. Mary’s School and Religious Education Programs.
Auditions to be held
Auditions for the comedy, “The Foreigner” will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday. Indian Valley Theatre will hold auditions at the Opera House of Sandwich.
Political discussion
A meeting will be held at the Wesley Foundation, 633 W. Locust, at 7 p.m. on Sunday to discuss the recent political developments in Nicaragua.
Women’s organization
The National Organization for Women will conduct an organizational meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Wesley Foundation, 633 W. Locust in DeKalb. All interested individuals are invited to attend. For program information call 756-3212.
‘Top Brass’ concert
Students and faculty will perform together in a concert at 8 p.m. Wednesday. This combined effort is called “Top Brass” and features the talents of the brass faculty and the top brass students of the music department.
The concert will feature the works of Strauss and Wagner performed by the brass ensembles and also included will be organist Robert Reeves, organ professor at NIU. The concert is open to the public at no charge and will be performed in the Boutell Memorial Concert Hall.
Nursing mothers to meet
Suggestions about nutrition for nursing mothers and their families and information about weaning the breastfed baby are topics that will be discussed at the DeKalb La Leche League meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1915 N. First Street.
Club to host reception
NIU President John La Tourette will host the fall reception for the University Women’s Club faculty, staff, spouses and retired women.
Board members will collect dues and register new and old members at the reception, which will begin at 3 p.m. and end at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Student’s work featured
Brian Drendel, member of the Golden Key National Honor Society at NIU, recently presented his research paper, “A Study of the Orbital Motions of Jupiter’s Galilean Satellites” during the Student Scholastic Showcase of the 1989 Golden Key National Convention held in Atlanta, Georgia.
Ensembles perform
The Gaping Maw, a Chicago based vocal quartet and Bal Tinne, an instrumental ensemble will be featured in a concert presented by the British Isles in the Boutell Concert Hall. The concert will begin at 3 p.m. on Oct. 8.
