Student Association to approve Chief Justice
September 8, 1989
Third-year law student Ed Gil is ready to utilize his experience to perform the duties of Student Association Supreme Court Chief Justice.
Gil was appointed last semester by SA president Huda Scheidelman. Gil said Scheidelman selected three people to serve on the court, while one is appointed as chief justice. Scheidelman offered Gil’s name to the Senate for ratification, which was unanimously accepted.
“Ed has a very good knowledge of the constitution,” Scheidelman said. “He is reasonable and articulate.” Scheidelman also said that Gill will be able to work “unbiasly.”
Gil said the Court remains inactive until called upon by the SA. At that time, the Court serves as fact-finders and mediators. “We follow the SA constitution and by-laws,” Gil said.
Gil brings to his one-year term of office as Chief Justice a year’s worh of experienc, having served as an Associate Justice last year. The other Associate Justices include Pamela Bozeman and third-year law student Robert Snidman, who were approved for the position along with Gil.
“One of my first jobs was to swear in Huda (Scheidelman),” Gil said. Gil plans a career in corporate or real estate law with a downtown-Chicago firm.
Snidman said Gil’s appointment was “very appropriate.” Gil has the necessary experience to perform the job, he said.
Snidman said he is “definitely” looking forward to working with Gil.
