Although two NIU students reportedly saw former classmate Richard Church on campus Tuesday, the fugitive continues to elude the police.

The suspected murderer of his girlfriend’s parents has disappeared, but some unfounded sightings have been reported, said University Police Capt. James Webster.

Church also is suspected of attempted murder of girlfriend Colleen Ritter and her youngest brother and, if found, will face charges of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

There have been a “few sporadic spottings” since the Tuesday morning sighting, but through further investigation, the UPs found the reports false, Webster said. One person claimed to have seen Church at the Office of Campus Recreation, Webster said.
