All music tastes featured at Fest

While thousands of fun seekers eat corn on the cob, shop and drink at this weekend’s Corn Fest, they can “take five” and listen to sounds of all kinds at the sound stage.

Sponsored by WDEK-FM, the stage will be occupied by a number of bands performing a variety of sounds.

Dave Bavido, soundstage manager, said the wide variety of music will span all musical tastes. Acts will include local favorites and bands from Chicago and Elgin.

The Polar Bears will lead off Saturday’s program at noon. The band will supply a “local taste of rock-n-roll,” Bavido said.

The Indigos will follow the Polar Bears at 1:30. Back by popular demand, this Chicago-based band will play rock-n-roll until about 3 p.m.

At 3:30 p.m., another Chicago band called Big Shoulders will play a spicy set mixed with blues and cajun music.

The ever-popular Mr. Myers will take the stage at 5:30 p.m. and will play until 7 p.m.

Bavido said the beer and wine garden will remain open until 8 p.m. in conjunction with the sound stage.

Leading off Sunday’s show will be the Jim Kanas Trio. The group will begin their show of country-western acoustic music at noon.

Joliet-based Pyramid will perform at 1:30 p.m.. The band carries a brassy sound similar to that of the band Blood, Sweat and Tears, Bavido said.

At 3 p.m., Warner Bros. recording artists Duke Tumatoe and the Power Trio will perform their brand of foot stompin‘ rhythm and blues music.

Head East will finish the Sunday show by playing new favorites as well as some classics from the 1970’s. Head East will play from 4:45 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Bavido said WDEK will broadcast live from the stage, playing the first two songs from each band. For more information, call the Corn Fest Hotline at 748-6755.
