I have no real connection with NIU except that I give to its foundation each year, and I take The Northern Star.

I read the column (June 21) about the situation in China, and I want to tell you it was the best I read anywhere.

The one sentence, “Tiananmen Square isn’t a very happy place – makes me feel very lucky to live in a place where I can do what I want to do, where I can write things like this and not get thrown in jail or killed or magically disappear” applies to all us lucky Americans.
