Arts Midwest, a regional organization that offers new opportunities to artists and those involved in the art field, has developed a minority fellowship program in arts administration. Four individuals will be chosen to experience a variety of aspects in the arts administration field. Deadline for application is June 30. ‘Diverse Images’ exhibited

“Diverse Images: Selections from the Student Association Collection” will be on display in the Swen Parson Gallery through July 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The exhibition features works by such well-known artists as Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, Jim Nutt, Claes Oldenburg, Larry Rivers and Roger Brown.

Theater excursion to Canada

NIU’s annual Stratford Festival theater trip to Canada will run from August 1 through 5 and will include four nightly productions, two of which are “Love’s Labours Lost” and “Kiss Me Kate.” Register for the theater trip through the College of Continuing Education by June 30. The registration cost of $378 per person for a double room and $428 for a single room includes transportation, accommodations for four nights in inns near the Stratford Festival theaters and theater tickets.

Agricultural scholarships

To encourage students to pursue careers in agriculture, the DeKalb County Farm Bureau announced that agricultural scholarships will be awarded to college juniors and seniors whose parents are DeKalb County Farm Bureau members. Scholarship amounts are $2,000 for juniors and $1,000 for seniors who met the scholarship qualifications. Application forms are available at the Farm Bureau office located at 315 N. Sixth St, DeKalb. Application deadline is June 30.

Greenbrier reconstruction

As a result of an $850,000 road reconstruction project, the city of DeKalb announced that Greenbrier Road will be closed for about six weeks.

The road between Russell Road and Hillcrest Drive will be open to local traffic only for the project geared to improve the Huskie bus route throughout the Greek Row area.

ome-repair-scam warning

DeKalb Police Chief Don Berke warned Friday, “It’s that time of year again” when residents should be wary of home-repair scams.

Berke suggested residents looking to make home improvements should be cautious when seeing very low prices, pressure tactics and “once-in-a-lifetime deals.”

To reduce chances of scams, residents can deal with local businesses or check the directories to ensure credibility of companies offering home repairs.

‘Contemporary Ceramics’

Thirteen artists will be represented in “Contemporary Ceramics,” on display from June 28 to August 19 at the NIU Art Gallery in Chicago, 212 W. Superior St.

The exhibition will feature works by Nicole Beck, Richey Bellinger, G.E. Colpitts, Heidi Giuntoli, Barbara Jo Gustafson, James Jones, Kate Keilty, Ron Mazanowski, Edward Nieman, Joe Seigenthaler, Philip Soosloff, Christopher Tedin and Greg Whitmer.
