Food Service to sell edibles

If relaxing in the sun by the East Lagoon during “Day in the Park”, those hunger pangs start to rumble, the Holmes Student Center Food Service will supply the food.
There will be one concession stand selling hotdogs, canned pop and ice cream novelties, said Jim Kohout, student center food service manager. Food prices range from 50 cents to $1.25, he said.
Kohout said because he is unsure of the number of students that will attend Springfest he does not know the food services’ total supply cost. Food and drinks left over from Springfest will be used elsewhere in the student center so there is no loss projected if sales are not competely successful, he said.
Last year the food sales brought in enough money to pay for the food and the employees working at the event, Kohout said.
“Day in the Park” food sales revenues are only intended to pay for the sales expenses and no additional profits will be gained, he said.
The stand will be open Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. with eight to ten people working at any one time, Kohout said. There will be an unlimited amount of food for students attending the event, he said.
Members of the Campus Activities Board did not contact any outside venders because University Food Services must be contacted first if an event on campus needs any culinary services, said Jill Ruffer, CAB Springfest coordinator. Food service officials were told about the event and offered to cater it as they have since Springfest originated, she said.
“They (the student center food service) pretty much supply anything they can,” she said.
Food will be available during the Springfest events which include music, a twister contest, a balloon launch and a dunk tank.
In case of poor weather conditions, food will still be available from food services in Diversions, located in the student center, she said.
