Council reviews designs for plan

The DeKalb City Council will meet tonight to decide on a design for the Lucinda Avenue reconstruction project.

According to a city administration report, NIU’s environmental committee has decided on a design that would result in the removal of the first row of parking next to Chick Evans Field House and Neptune Hall West.

The removal would result in the addition of about 15 to 20 feet of landscaping between the parking lots and a pedestrian mall.

The council will meet at 7 p.m. at the DeKalb Municipal Building, 200 S. Fourth St.

If the council agrees to the design approved by NIU, a final project report would be sent to both the city and NIU for approval before being sent to the Illinois Department of Transportation for final approval.

If approved, construction would begin in 1991.

The city also will discuss its plans to reconstruct South First Street from Taylor Street to Fairview Drive.
