A panel discussion on careers in communication will be held today from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in Room 204 of DuSable Hall. Communications graduates will discuss corporate and media employment opportunities. The event is sponsored by the NIU Advertising Club and the Alpha Epsilon Rho Broadcasting Fraternity.
COMS Olympics to be held
The Department of Communications COMS Olympics will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the East Lagoon. All proceeds will benefit the Department of Communication Studies Ettema Scholarship Fund. The event is part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the NIU communications department.
Panel discussion
A panel discussion titled, “Corazon and the Philippines” will be held Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Newman Center, 512 Normal Road. The panel will include NIU political science Professor Clark Neher, Rev. Fernando Laxamana and Filipino activists from Chicago.
The discussion is sponsored by the DeKalb Interfaith Network, the Wesley Foundation and United Campus Ministries.
Library book sale
The Friends of NIU Libraries organization is holding a book sale Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the main lobby of Founders Memorial Library. Over 15,000 books will be offered, including many contemporary novels.
Patrons who purchase at least $5 worth of books will be eligible to enter a drawing to win one of two books published by the NIU Press.
Good Argument lecture
“What is a Good Argument?” is the title of a lecture Wednesday from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Room 405 of the Holmes Student Center, sponsored by the NIU Department of Philosophy. The featured speaker is Trudy Govier of the University of Calgary.
Children’s art exhibit
NIU’s Swen Parson Gallery is hosting an exhibit of children’s art works until May 14. The exhibit is part of the Crayola Dream-Makers III National Art Education Program and features 75 children’s works from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Nebraska and Wisconsin.
The children, who range in age from kindergarten through sixth grade, used the themes of “Me and My World,” “The World Nearby” and “All Over the World” to create their works.
Las Vegas photos featured
Chicago photographer Jay Wolke’s exhibition of Las Vegas photographs is being featured in the Swen Parson Hall MediaSpace until May 14. The photos show both typical and atypical views of the Nevada city.
