Everyone will have a chance to bring out the kid in themselves this weekend, as NIU residence halls will sponsor activities for the annual Little Siblings Weekend.
Beginning Friday, both on- and off-campus students can register their lil‘ sib for a weekend of fun. Siblings will be eligible to participate in all activities if they register at any residence hall between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Friday.
Friday’s main activity will be the movie “Big,” starring Tom Hanks in Carl Sandburg Auditorium in the Holmes Student Center at 4, 7 and 10 p.m. Admission is $1. There also will be an after set mixer with a DJ and dancing in the Stevenson Towers lounge from 1 a.m. to 3 a.m.
Saturday will begin with another registration period from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. There will be a Simon Says and musical chairs competition in Douglas Hall at noon Saturday.
A carnival will be held at the East Lagoon from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., featuring games, contests, prizes and food for kids of all ages. Some of the events will cost 10 cents.
From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday in Stevenson Towers South, treat yourself and your sibling to a pizza party. A kids dance will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday in the Trident Lounge in Neptune Hall Central.
Douglas Hall will feature kids’ olympics, in which sibs can participate in tug-of-war and relay races and win t-shirts for their efforts.
From 7 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Stevenson Towers will treat everyone to outdoor movies between B and C towers. One of the movies to be featured is the classic “Snow White.”
Sandburg Auditorium also will show “The Fox and the Hound” at 4, 7 and 10 p.m. Saturday. The weekend will close Sunday at Neptune Central. From 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., there will be a cartoon fest, followed by an 11 a.m. treasure hunt.
Sibs also will have all weekend to participate in a coloring contest. Information will be given at registration about the competition of different age groups in coloring the Huskie mascot.
