Man arrested in drug-related case

DeKalb Police arrested a Dixon man in another drug-related case Sunday after responding to a disorderly subject call.

Robert W. Janacek, 38, 616 S. Ottawa St., Dixon, Ill., was charged by DeKalb Police with possession and the intent to deliver more than 15 grams of a controlled substance.

Police found about $11,000 in cash and more than 100 grams of a white-powder substance in which field tests revealed the presence of cocaine.

Police originally responded to a disorderly person call at Amber Manor Apartments, 807 Ridge Drive. Police reports state a female wanted to press harassment charges against Janacek, who had left the apartment.

Police found Janacek hiding in his car at the apartment complex.

Police discovered the white substance when Janacek was arrested, reports state.

Janacek was transported to the DeKalb County Jail. He is being held on a $1 million dollar bond. Janacek’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 13 at the DeKalb County Courthouse.

DeKalb Police Chief Donald Berke said Janacek was a “past acquaintance” of the 22-year-old female, but can “only surmise” why Janacek was in DeKalb.

Berke declined to release the female’s name and did not know if she attends NIU.

The substance was sent to the Illinois State Police Crime Lab, Rockford, Ill., to be analyzed. Additional charges might be filed, Berke said.

Berke declined to estimate a street value for the substance until after other reports are completed.

Duke Harris, assistant state’s attorney, said possession with the intent to deliver is a Class X felony that is non-probational. The felony carries a six to 30 year prison term and a fine of up to $500,000 if convicted.

The Northern Star has learned that Janacek was free on an $18,000 appeal bond for an August 21 conviction of conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance. Janacek is appealing an October 10 sentence of 30 months probation with four weekends in jail, resulting from the August conviction, to the Second Appellate Court in Elgin, Ill.

Janacek is the seventh person in 11 days to be arrested and charged in connection with drugs in DeKalb. Four of the seven people charged are NIU students.

Students Paul R. Batchen and Mark D. Schrepferman were arrested Thursday by the DeKalb Police Department. Batchen is charged with unlawful delivery of more than 15 grams of a controlled substance. Schreprferman is charged with unlawful possession of less than 15 grams of a controlled substance.

Students Eric B. Anderson and Sean Da Kittrell-Shaw were arrested March 24 by DeKalb County Sheriff’s Police. Anderson is charged with unlawful delivery of more than 10, but less than 30, grams of cannabis. Kittrell-Shaw is charged with unlawful delivery of cocaine.

Jonas W. Kidd and William P. Williams were arrested March 24. Kidd is charged with unlawful delivery of a look-alike drug. Williams is charged with the delivery of a controlled substance.
