A hearing on the proposed expansion of the DeKalb County Landfill will begin March 1.

Rodney Engstrom, owner of the landfill located on Saumanak Road in Cortland, said he expects that the 38-acre site will be filled to capacity by summer. There has not been an expansion of the privately-owned landfill since 1972, he said.

Sufficient land is available for the expansion, and Engstrom has asked for 26 more acres which would give the 33-year-old landfill about 15 extra years of use.
