OLAS to aid newcomers

The Organization of Latin American Students is a group designated to “creating an atmosphere where incoming Latino freshmen and transfer students can adjust to a college campus environment,” said OLAS President Angel Rodriguez.
Rodriguez said the organization tries to make Hispanic students feel comfortable in a college environment, and tries to educate newcomers about the organizations’ resources, as well as introduce them to other Latino students.
Two major social events being organized are the Latin Olympics and “Latinofest.” The olympics are an annual event to be held at NIU this year, and will include Latino students from universities in Illinois, Ohio and Wisconsin, he said.
