Student in stable condition

Surgery for an NIU student injured in a fall last weekend “went well” said a spokeswoman for Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
Dale Spencer, 20, 916 Greenbrier Drive, was being transferred out of intensive care Wednesday to another room on the floor, the spokeswoman said. She said Spencer’s condition is stable.
Spencer broke a lower vertebra Saturday morning when he fell off a railroad tressel located behind the It’s Greek to Me restaurant, 232 W. Lincoln Hwy. Jim Klimas, president of Delta Sigma Phi, the fraternity Spencer belongs to, said Spencer was numb from the middle of the thighs down after the accident.
Marcus Nuygen, Spencer’s roommate, said doctors were hoping a bone was pressing on a nerve causing the numbness and that surgery would restore the feeling in his legs.
