Martin takes KU athletic dept. job
December 2, 1988
Janelle Martin, NIU’s assistant sports information director, recently resigned to accept an athletic administrative position at Kansas, her alma mater.
Martin was named the administrative assistant and compliance auditor at Kansas. Her new responsibilities include the administration of financial aid, certification, participation, eligibility and compliance forms for both the NCAA and the Big Eight Conference. Martin also will oversee the rules compliance program with the rest of the administrative staff.
The 26-year-old Martin had joined the Huskie sports information department in December 1985 and coordinated the publicity for NIU’s eight Division I women’s sports. She promoted NIU’s numerous Academic All-America selections and served on the women’s Hall of Fame Committee.
“I’ve really enjoyed my association with Northern Illinois University,” Martin said. “I will really miss all the coaches, athletes and the people here, but it’s a great opportunity to go back to your alma mater.”
A native of Glasco, Kan., and a 1984 graduate of Kansas, Martin worked briefly as an administrative assistant in the Williams Fund at KU and as a student assistant in the Jayhawk office of sports information.
“Janelle has contributed a great deal to Northern Illinois University, not just intercollegiate athletics, or just to women’s athletics,” said Mike Korcek, NIU sports information director. “She was loyal, dilligent, professional and represented the institution in the proper manner. We wish her only the best at Kansas.”
A national search began earlier this month for her replacement.
