Lecture on illustration offers tips
November 1, 1988
Mark Nelson, NIU associate professor of art, will speak on his experiences with book and comic illustration in part of a lecture series hosted by Friends of NIU Libraries.
The lecture will take place Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the lower-level staff lounge at Founders Memorial Library.
Sandra Naiman, coordinator of the lecture series, said Nelson’s speech will involve selling tips within the field and advice for those who wish to get involved with illustration, followed by questions and answers from the audience.
Nelson, an NIU faculty member since 1978, teaches lithography (a printing process), illustration and anatomical drawing.
Although he is an art professor, he said his preference lies with illustrating science fiction and fantasy books and drawing comic strips.
Recently, he illustrated volumes in the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, Endless Quest and Super Endless Quest series.
