Student in serious condition

An NIU sophomore was listed in serious condition late Monday afternoon at St. Anthony’s Medical Center in Rockford after she was struck by a vehicle on campus Saturday night.

Andrea Ford, 20, 907 Kimberly Drive #5, was taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital by a DeKalb Fire Department Ambulance and then transferred to the Rockford hospital where a spokesman would only comment on the injuries by saying Ford is a “multi-trauma” patient.

A DeKalb Police Department accident report said Shawn Tate, 22, Chicago, was driving the 1987 silver 4-door Mazda 6267X that struck Ford. The incident occurred at about 9:18 p.m. on Normal Road near Founder’s Memorial Library, according to reports.

Reports said the accident is pending investigation and no tickets have been issued in the accident. Tate said Monday that he did not wish to make any comments regarding the accident.

Ford, a sophomore majoring in pre-business, is from Chicago.
