Statement sexist
November 17, 1988
This letter is written in response to the comments made by Marilyn Skinner in The Northern Star of Nov. 10. In the article, which revealed the plans for the removal of the Wirtz House, Ms. Skinner made a series of statements that were blatantly sexist in nature. I found these statements to be very offensive personally, as well as being a gross overgeneralization of the attitudes of men on this campus.
Ms. Skinner’s attitude is very unproffesional and unbecoming the conduct of a chairman of a major university department. I also believe that if a man had made similar statements regarding women, he would be severely ridiculed by the university community.
As for the situation regarding the Wirtz House, Ms. Skinner would make much more progress if she did not belittle the “male administration” by negatively stereotyping them.
