Comment clarified

In the Thurs., Sept. 22 issue of The Northern Star, I was quoted saying, “The greeks took advantage of the situation,” and “With a two-district election process, they have it made.”

These quotes seem to suggest that I thought the organizers of the Students for all Students Coalition (greeks) acted improperly, this is not the case and is a result of my words being paraphrased.

What I said was, “with their inherent organization, they were able to take advantage of the two-district system, which is what I or anyone else would do in their place; with this system they have it made.”

This was simply commentary, and was not meant to imply they had done anything wrong.

I believe that the system itself is faulty. Geographic legislative districting is used practically universally. Representatives from specific legislative districts have a much higher degree of accountability than in NIU’s two-district system. NIU senators are accountable to no specific constituency other than “the student population;” a term so general as to be meaningless.
