Baker to address concerns
October 3, 1988
NIU Provost Kendall Baker will address faculty questions concerning administrative handling of the “REG” stamp grades at Wednesday’s meeting of the University Council Faculty Assembly.
UC Executive Secretary Judy Bischoff said Baker also will discuss recent salary increases for NIU accountancy faculty due to “marketplace adjustments.” Baker is scheduled to arrive at the meeting at 4:30 p.m.
The assembly will go into executive session at 4 p.m. to review NIU President John LaTourette’s nominees for honorary degrees, Bischoff said. The meeting will begin Wednesday at 3 p.m. in room 505 of the Holmes Student Center.
William Monat, NIU Regency professor, will outline a proposal to establish a faculty senate, which would include a faculty representative from each academic department in addition to the 30 elected members of the Faculty Assembly.
Bischoff said a faculty senate would “increase the representation of the faculty’s voice on this campus.” A faculty senate would include about 75 members, she said.
The assembly also will address proposed changes in the NIU Constitution and Bylaws, including a possible change in how faculty members are elected and replaced in the Faculty Assembly.
