Rudeness no help

If you’re like most people waiting for financial checks or information, you’re fed up, getting impatient and thoroughly dissapointed with how inefficient and disorganized our financial aid system is. I don’t blame you, since the system, like many programs here, is too understaffed and under funded to operate as well as it should.

However, this is no reason to be rude to the brave women who work at the financial aid window. They are not responsible for the delays nor for the lack of aid itself. In order to keep myself occupied in long waiting lines, I’ve listened to some of the conversations that take place. One guy said, “Well, shit! How am I gonna pay the *!#; rent if I gotta wait three more weeks for this? This place sucks!” Really, now. Do you expect her to invite you to live with her so you won’t have to endure such hardship? I doubt these outbursts solve anything but make their job even more difficult.

Next time you wait in line at the financial aid window, make the time pass and get your frustrations out by writing to Gov. Thompson and senators. Then when you finally get to the front of the line, smile and say, “Hi! My social security number is ect. Thank you!” Perhaps the lines wouldn’t be so long if everyone stopped taking the time to unleash unneccessary complaints onto those poor ladies. Thompson is the one to be mean to.
