Undergraduate Coordinating Council to meet
October 4, 1988
The first meeting of the NIU Undergraduate Coordinating Council, which replaces the Council on Instruction, will be mainly organizational.
UCC Chairman Lou Jean Moyer said the meeting will be Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in the Lowden Hall conference room. The meetings will be held once a month, she said.
Moyer said standing committee chairmen will be elected and operations procedures will be discussed. She also said there will be a decision made regarding the proposed science/research semester.
Moyer said the proposal resembles the NIU foreign exchange program. Passage of the proposal will allow students to get credit for one semester’s work if they choose to do research at one of the six major research sites in the United States, including Argonne National Laboratory in Ottawa, she said.
Moyer said the UCC differs from the COI in the method which recommendations are made. She said the UCC standing committees report directly to the UCC and “do the legwork and make recommendations—they will be doing the hard work.” The COI had no such groups.
Moyer said faculty representatives were chosen proportionally from their colleges by faculty from the colleges.
