Funeral services set for student

Visitation services for NIU student Marlon Blue will be held early next week near his south-suburban hometown.

A visitation for Blue will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Tews Funeral Home, 18230 S. Dixie Highway, Homewood. The wake and funeral will be from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at Living Springs Community Church, 19051 S. Halsted, Glenwood.

Blue’s body was found Sunday in a retention pond near the intersection of West Hillcrest Drive and Regent Drive after he disappeared more than 24 hours earlier. He was 21.

Police are unsure how Blue ended up in the pond. The case has been all but closed, DeKalb Police Lt. Jim Kayes said. Alcohol may have been a factor, he added.

Toxicology results are expected to be released in a few weeks.

Friends last saw Blue at about 2 a.m. Saturday in the 1100 block of Hillcrest Drive. After a night at local bars, Blue walked unaccompanied to a friend’s party in the 900 block of Regent Drive. He never made it to the party and did not return to his Stevenson Towers residence hall room.

Concerned friends contacted police late Saturday, and Blue’s body was found with the aid of dogs and rescue squads on Sunday.

Police said no foul play is suspected.
