Area school benefits from sale of celed memorabilia

St. Mary’s School of Sycamore is holding its twelfth annual fall festival and auction, featuring the sale of celebrity memorabilia, on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

Among the items to be auctioned are a bow tie from Sen. Paul Simon, autographed pictures of former Chicago Bear Walter Payton, and a t-shirt and an album from singer Kenny Rogers.

Other celebrity items are a cap from WGN radio DJ, Bob Collins and a coffee mug from Gov. James Thompson.

Julie Rhodes, spokesperson for the auction, said, “We send away to all of these organizations (such as the governor’s office and corporations) in advance to get a lot of these items.”

The auction will benefit St. Mary’s School and the religious education program.

Under the program, public school students attend classes at St. Mary’s during the week.

The auctioneers are Jim Patterson of Kirkland, Keith Sharer of Sycamore, and Ed Brown of DeKalb, who will donate their services for the auction.

On Saturday, the day before the auction, St. Mary’s will hold a garage sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the church parking lot, located at 222 Waterman St., Sycamore.
