Forum to inform prospective law students
September 5, 1988
Prospective law students of all ages are invited to take the first step that might launch their careers in a Law School Forum.
The forum, sponsored by the Law School Admission Council/Law School Admission Services, will offer students the opportunity to talk one-on-one with representatives of more than 100 law schools, said Sharon Kemble of the LSAC/LSAS.
A press release from Kemble’s office stated the LSAC is an association of law schools in the United States and Canada. The LSAC and its operating organization, the LSAS, are non-profit organizations. The LSAC/LSAS administers the Law School Admission Test.
The fifth annual forum will be held Oct. 21 (noon to 7 p.m.) and 22 (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.) at the Palmer House and Towers, 17 East Monroe Street, Chicago. Admission to the forum is free.
The two-day event does not require any pre-registration, and participants are free to attend for any length of time.
The forum is designed to provide up-to-date information about law school admission policies and financial aid to the possible applicants, Kemble said.
While there are no scheduled seminars for the event, representatives of the American Bar Association-approved law schools will be available to answer questions and distribute materials.
Videotapes dealing with the law school admission process and various careers in law will be shown continuously throughout the forum.
The videotapes also suggest discussion ideas and topics potential applicants may pursue with law school representatives.
Leonard Strickman, dean of NIU’s College of Law, said a delegation from the NIU law school will be providing information at the forum, noting the forum is one of the most popular in the Midwestern region.
NIU will be represented by Law Admission Director Judith Malen and current law school faculty members and students, Strickman said.
Expenses incurred by the NIU delegation will be paid from the regular admission budget.
The group will answer questions, hand out literature, and present slides of the campus in an effort to inform prospective students about the opportunities available to them at NIU, he said.
