Professor to speak on WGN radio
August 9, 1988
NIU political science professor Kevin McKeough will be Milton Rosenberg’s guest Monday night on WGN-AM radio’s “720 Extension.”
Program producer Cordee Maloney said McKeough, U.S. Senator Alan J. Dixon, and Paul Green, from Governor State University political scientist, will provide commentary and analyses on the Republican convention to be held next week in New Orleans.
He said while McKeough and Dixon will be in the WGN studio, Green will speak from the convention venue.
McKeough said his comments and analyses will be restricted to questions raised by Milton Rosenberg and calls from listeners to the program.
He said, “I assume, and especially since Paul Green will be at the convention giving his observations about what he sees and hears, his views will probably lead to comments by myself, Senator Dixon and Dr. Rosenberg.”
McKeough said that while it was true that vice president George Bush was the virtual Republican party nominee for president, the party needed to hold the convention to go through the formality of the nomination.
McKeough added that the New Orleans convention will select a vice presidential candidate, and adopt party rules and a political platform.
“More importantly, in both the keynote address, and Bush’s acceptance speech, the Republicans will have the opportunity to present their ideas and their version of America to the American people by radio and television.”
McKeough said after the Republican convention he expects the two presidential candidates to focus their attention on issues, rather than personal attacks in their campaigns.
He said, too, that the effects of the Republican convention could be a narrowing of the lead the Democratic presidential candidate Michael Dukakis has over Bush.
