Poster contest to celebrate Unity in Diversity Week
July 5, 1988
A poster contest is among three competitions to be held during the Unity in Diversity Week September 25 to October 1.
Sue Mellard, a co-chairman for the contest, said Tuesday that the purpose for the poster contest is to promote the celebration of cultural and lifestyle diversity, and awareness through educational, entertainment and academic programming. She said would-be contestants must reflect in their posters the idea that unity in diversity begins with understanding.
Mellard said the contest will be open to all students. The size of a poster must not be larger than 17 by 22 inches.
Mellard said all posters must be printed in no more than two colors, and must include the words, “Unity in Diversity begins with understanding.”
Mellard said forms for the poster contest can be obtained from the programming and activities office, and added that the deadline for the submission of entries is September 12. The entries are to be returned to the programming and acitivities office by that date.
Aside from the poster contest, Mellard said students can participate in an essay contest with the unity in diversity theme.
A third contest, Mellard said, is a speech contest. She said she had no specific information on this contest, but advised interested students to contact Rosalie Hewett and Jim Miller of the English department for information on the essay competition; and Lois Self, director of women’s studies, for speech contest information.
