Cleanup cost report to be released

Cost estimates for a pesticide cleanup at the DeKalb-Taylor Municipal Airport should be available next week, DeKalb City Manager Mark Stevens said.

A spiller ordinance is in effect, and the company responsible for the damage is liable, Stevens said. The work on the site is completed.

The Environmental Protection Agency is conducting a soil analysis report, but “all indications are, there are no environmental problems,” Stevens said.

The accident occurred last week after an airplane ran off the runway, spilling about 60 pounds of pesticide and 225 gallons of water.
