Being single divorced or widowed is no longer an excuse for DeKalb residents to stay home.

“We have a singles’ group dance at Matthew Boone’s (Restaurant and Lounge, 122 S. First St.) on the second and fourth Sunday of each month,” group coordinator Carollyn Mapes said.
The next dance will be held June 26, at 8 p.m. with a 1950s and ‘60s theme. Singles who dress in 50’s or 60’s fashion will be eligible for a $50 door prize. Judges will determine who is wearing the most original attire and award the prize to that person, Mapes said.
A disc jockey from JB’s DJ Service plays a variety of music at all dances, Mapes said. She said music at the upcoming dance will represent sounds from the ’50s and ‘60s.
“There is a $3 admission charge which is used to pay the DJ and anyone who attends must be 21 (years of age) or older,” Mapes said. These are the only requirements for singles who want to be a part of the dances.
“Dances are a dress-up affair,” Mapes said. The dress is better than casual except for theme dances, she said.
In the past, the group held a “crazy hat” night and the next dance after “’50s and ‘60s” night will be “Western night.” Mapes said singles are not required to dress in theme attire but, “It is a lot of fun.”
Mapes said, “There is nothing else in DeKalb for adults unless you’re a student.”
