Cubs top Giants
March 30, 1988
MESA, Ariz. (AP)—Calvin Schiraldi gave up two hits in five scoreless innings and Leon Durham homered, singled and drove in three runs to lead the Cubs to a 6-2 exhibition win Tuesday over the San Francisco Giants.
Schiraldi, who is pitching himself back into shape after sustaining a sore shoulder earlier this spring, held the Giants to a single, double and walk, while improving his record to 1-1 and ERA to 3.15.
Durham’s two-run homer in the first inning against Mike LaCoss turned out to be the game-winning hit. Jody Davis also homered for the Cubs, who halted a four-game losing streak.
After reliver Drew Hall held the Giants scoreless for three more innings, Rich Gossage gave up both Giant runs in the ninth. Joel Youngblood singled and Kevin Mitchell homered.
