After an extensive review of the athletic administration, the decison not to renew the contract of volleyball coach Herb Summers is particularly disturbing.

During his tenure, Coach Summers has developed a program whose record is comparable, if not superior, to other athletic programs at Northern. He has continually recruited students who have not only represented this university without embarrassment but have also majored in and graduated from some of the most challenging programs offered.

In light of these contributions to the athletic program, shouldn’t this decision be questioned and accountability sought?
