DUs host forum on bus ban
April 1, 1987
The possible ban of buses from North Greek Row will be discussed at an open forum tonight at the Delta Upsilon fraternity house.
David Baum, Student Association Academic Affairs adviser and DU member, said 1st Ward Alderman Ron Matekaitis will attend the meeting to answer questions concerning the busing issue.
“There are a lot of rumors” concerning the ban, Baum said. The forum is designed to eliminate rumors and find out from Matekaitis what the city is considering and how he intends to vote. He said Greek Row busing is the primary topic, but the forum is not limited to busing.
DeKalb Tenant Union Director Carey Ward said he also will attend the forum as a representative of the Tenant Union. He said Matekaitis will be asked if there is a plan to earmark money to fix streets in the Greek Row area.
“A lot of people don’t realize this person (Matekaitis) is their representative,” Baum said. “We (Greek Row residents) need to let him know how we feel.”
The forum will begin at 9 p.m. at the DU fraternity house, 1114 Blackhawk Road.
