The National Week of the Young Child is being observed this week with special programs and events for young people and will conclude Saturday with the Second Annual Children’s Fair.
Ann Beiswanger, representative for Kishwaukee Child Care, said the Northern Illinois Association for the Education of Young Children is sponsoring the fair, which will include several children’s games such as bean bag tosses, a Bozo bucket contest, a fishing game and “parachute play.”
Art activities also will be a part of the fair along with physical events such as jumping, running and hopping games, Beiswanger said.
Several day care centers, including Kishwaukee Pre-School, NIU Campus Child Care, The Growing Place, the Salvation Army Daycare, Sycamore Child Care Center, Kindercare, and NIU Child Development Lab will be involved with activities, Beiswanger said. She said some of these organizations will have information booths.
Art works from the local child care centers can be seen on display in public libraries, WalMart on Sycamore Road and in other business areas.
The fair will be held Saturday from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Lions Park Shelter House at 700 West Taylor St. in DeKalb. There is no entrance fee to the fair but there will be a charge for activities, helium balloons, and refreshments.
Other events being held this week include plays, programs and open houses sponsored by child care centers.
