Tan lines contest donates earnings to DeKalb charity

Sun worshippers who spent their spring holiday in Florida or South Padre have one final chance to show off their tans this weekend at The Jungle’s Fourth Annual Tan Lines Contest.

The contest, sponsored by The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), will be held this Sunday at 7 p.m. at The Jungle, 1028 Hillcrest.

An admission fee of $1 will be collected at the door, with all proceeds going toward the Feed Our Older DeKalb (F.O.O.D.) charity, said Dan Aranda of PRSSA.

“Last year the contest was very successful,” Aranda said. “We’re hoping for an even better turnout this year, especially since we’re allowing all ages into the Jungle.”

This will be the first year that students under 21 will be admitted to the contest, said Jungle owner Lito Nebomiachi. “We thought it would be a good idea to let everyone in since the money goes for such a good cause, and the more people who come in, the more money that the F.O.O.D. cause will raise.” There will be no alcohol served during the evening.

There will be nearly $500 in prizes awarded to both the contestants and to the spectators of this event, Aranda said. The top five contestants and numerous door prize winners will receive such gifts as a $100 silver chain, dinner for four at Rosita’s, and tanning sessions.

The contest will be judged by audience applause and by a panel of judges who are all members of the PRSSA. The emcee for the event will be “Jumpin” George Edwards, a disc jockey at WDEK.

Those wishing to compete must register at the door before 7 p.m. on the night of the contest.
