William Campbell, director of community affairs for WLS Channel 7, will speak Tuesday at NIU about the issue of black stereotyping in the television industry.
NIU’s Center for Black Studies is sponsoring the event at which Campbell will discuss topics including images, stereotypes and black participation in the television industry.
Negative stereotyping of black men and women on television in the past and the improvements which have been made on their images to date will be discussed by Campbell, said Van Amos, coordinator for the Center for Black Studies.
Campbell has been the editorial director of community service in Chicago for the past nine years and has an extensive background experience dealing with the mayor’s office.
The winner of three Emmies for Outstanding Services, Campbell will speak at 3 p.m. at the Center for Black Studies. Attendance is open to the public.
