$10,000 damages result from blaze
February 13, 1987
A fire that broke out early Wednesday at Peggy Kay Apartments, 830 Greenbrier Road, apartment 1, was apparently caused by electrical wiring, the DeKalb Fire Department reported Thursday.
The fire, which caused $10,000 worth of damage, was started by the electrical wiring from the stereo equipment in the apartment bedroom, a fire department report stated. No one was injured in the fire. Fire fighter Mike Boyd said the incident is still under investigation.
Boyd said the fire department took pictures of the wiring and debris left from the fire. Residents were not home at the time the fire broke out, and there was no other apparent cause of the fire, which started near the floor by the stereo, Boyd said.
Fire fighters arrived within three minutes of the call on the fire and had the blaze under control within minutes, the fire department’s report stated. The fire was confined to the bedroom, the report stated.
The apartments are managed by Laing Management, 820 Edgebrook. An employee of Laing said that the manager, Kathy Laing, will meet with insurance agents Friday about the fire.
