RA denies report
February 16, 1987
This letter comes with lamentable regret and with the concomitant aim of clarifying the misunderstanding regarding the assertions made in the Northern Star.
As you are well aware, the Northern Star purportedly reports that my response to a question regarding the clean up of broken glass in the Grant North lobby was highly presumptive and suggestive about the janitorial staff. I am quoted as saying, “Do I look like a janitor?” It is with integrity and honesty that I deny emphatically that such a response was made. Moreover, it is my contention that because of my refusal to give information to the Northern Star regarding the incident which transpired on Feb. 7, that those reporting the incident chose this factious and divisive course of action.
I presume that their motives lie in making myself, and indeed the entire incident, an object of opprobrious controversy and discussion. It is with a heartfelt apology and regret that I say I am sorry for any hurt feelings or insults you or your staff might have incurred as a result of this misunderstanding. Such misunderstandings are owing less to a sincere desire to gather facts and set forth the truth about events and persons, and more to a huge appetite for unnecessary gossip and controversy.
