Man will receive counselling after shooting mother
January 21, 1987
A DeKalb man originally charged with attempted murder for the Christmas Day shooting of his mother appeared in DeKalb County Court Tuesday morning for the lesser charge of reckless conduct.
State’s Attorney Phil DiMarzio said Augustin Fajardo, 31, 607 Karen Ave., surrendered himself to the court on a charge of reckless conduct. He was released on a recognizance bond of $1,000 on the condition that he receive monitored counseling at the Ben Gordon Community Mental Health Center, 12 Health Services Drive, DiMarzio said.
DiMarzio said the state will monitor Fajardo’s counseling progress as directed by an expert at the Ben Gordon Center. A court date for Fajardo has been set for March 9, DiMarzio said.
Fajardo allegedly shot his mother, Emilia Fajardo, 55, once in the abdomen with a 9mm handgun. She was treated at Kishwaukee Community Hospital and released two days later.
Fajardo was dismissed of the attempted murder charge last Thursday when a DeKalb County court judge ruled there was no probable cause in the case.
