Four finalists have been chosen from among 40 applicants in the search to fill the position of NIU Physical Plant Director.

The position was left vacant when former Physical Plant Director Jim Harder was promoted last year to Vice President of Business and Operations.

Bill Herrmann, bond revenue operations director and chairman of the search committee, said, “The committee was formed in the first part of November” and has since screened 40 applicants, four of whom still are being considered for the position.

errmann said he could not release the names of the final four applicants at this time.

e said the committee looked for a number of qualifications in the applicants, including “experience in physical plant work at the university level.”

In addition, the applicants should have an architectural or technical background, as well as a management background, Herrman said. The committee also is requiring applicants to have good communication skills, he said.

errmann said he was appointed as committee chairman by Harder because of his experience with the operations of the Physical Plant and because he has an active interest in the field.
