More information

Thank you for your recent article on acquaintance rapes, sexual assault and abuse. Please add the following information, which should be known by all students on the campus.
Anyone who is the victim of any sort of sexual assault should go immediately to the Health Center or to a medical facility. The initial reaction is to change clothes and take a bath. Both of these procedures destroy evidence which may be needed in order to insure a conviction. Proceeding directly to a medical facility for an examination will enable the collection of evidence which can be used if and when the case comes to court. When going to a medical institution following such an assault, rather than changing your clothes first, bring a change of clothing with you, which you can put on after the examination.
Thank you for disseminating this information.
Sincerely yours,
osemary B. Lane, MD
Director, University Health Center.
